I've seen this mostly in amateur "sponsor me" tapes. Why is this done? Is there a purpose to it? Is it just something "cool" they saw and are trying to emulate far too often?

just between you and me - so many time in action shots we forget to stop the camera and scene are shot that may not be in the skater best interest so we put are hand over the lens and it's easier to edit ,dust protection lots reason i guess never really thought about it much …good luck

Welcome to street skating, it's my favorite skating to do without a park or anything, just go around and look for some sweet spots, there's all kinds of things to grind on or ollie or whatever you just have to look. Weather you ollie down a set of stairs or whatever man, these are things most skate videos are made up of, basic street, you don't see many vids of people in skate parks anyways.

I would really like to get into that kind of photography. Can you guys help with with the kind of lens? and maybe some other info?

Every sport, including skateboarding uses different lenses for different effects. Do you have a sample image? If it looks really different from normal pictures, my guess is it’s a wideangle or fisheye lens.

i think it is nick trapasso’s nollie tuck knee

I like the one where he is on the rail, slips and slams his nuts on the rail, curls up into the fetal position, oh yea, I can see it now, slide, slam and curl baby!

So me and a few friends are making a skateboard video, and we need a camera. I already have a HI8 camera, but we can't use that since it can't go to the computer. I don't need the latest technology, but preferably a cam with 37mm front threads.

We're on a budget of about 500 USD.

Before you invest in a new camcorder - you might consider using an AV capture device to transfer the videos from your (analog) Hi8 camcorder to a computer.

Here's a helpful guide for transferring video:
http://www.digitalvideoclub.com/basics/transfer.php
see Section 3. Analog video capturing

If you're really set on getting a new camcorder, here's a good website to do your research:

like google but i rarely find any on google cuz most of the time its just stuff from youtube which you cant download

like a website like google video where you can choose to download a video to your computer or in iPod format

Goto http://www.tubematrix.com paste the url of the youtube video and it automatically downloads the youtube video to your computer.

The file is in flv (Flash Video) format. To convert to iPod format use a converter like Replay Converter at http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/morein… . Drop the flv file and hit convert for a ipod ready youtube file.

I have just made a skateboard sponsor video and want to send it to companies. how many should i send it too?

as many as you like. Alot of companies have a FAQ part and they give you an adress so do all the skate companies you like.
try sponsorspace.com(you can set up a profile and companies will look at ur profile and sponsor you)

hope that helps and good luck getting a sponsor
